We were right.
As expected, DeMarco Murray ran all over the pourous Bears defense Thursday night.
I remember last year against the Giants - the last time the Bears played a Thursday Night game - we Bears fans were hyped to see their team play a compeitive game on a national stage. Most of us thought the Bears were going to win, however, and we were right. It was a good game for Chicago, with all three phases of the football clicking.
But last year's Thursday Night is a distant memory, and this year was, as you would imagine, a completely different story.
Last year's Thursday Night win against New York seems like an enternity ago, and it's now just a distant memory.
It almost felt like I was watching the moribund world finally begin its downfall, with the early stages of "the end" occuring in Soldier Field, withthe Bears being blown into smitherines by DeMarco Murray and the Cowboys. A Brandon Marshall season-ending injury didn't help either.
What's the point anymore? Where's the point in trying? There is none. It's not like the Bears are making the playoffs. They were mathematically eliminated on Sunday when the Lions beat the Bucanneers. But it doesn't really matter. In my eyes, the Bears were eliminated from the playoffs after Week 7's ugly loss to the Dolphins. As Weeks 8 and 10 rolled on against the Patriots and Packers (respectively), my prediction of a Bears downfall was confirmed. Thank the Lord for the Week 9 bye. Because of the break, I can at least say the Bears didn't give up 50 points in consecutive weeks.
The Bears appear to be a team suffering of something related to Senioritis. Now obviously the Bears aren't a bunch of high-schoolers (although they do play like 18 year-olds), but now that they're officially hopeless, who cares? What will the Bears gain by winning out? Nothing. What will they lose by losing out? Again, nothing.
The only difference between a teenager suffering the side effects of "Senioritis" and the Bears suffering through the side effects of "Terrible-football-team-itis" is the fact that Seniors already have their future planned out. Seniors are already accepted in to their universities. Their final exams are completed. Their SATs and ACTs are done. Everything's stable. On the other hand, the Bears have no idea what the heck their future is. They are completely all over the place, with discombobulation present everywhere in the organization.
The Bears are like a teenager telling life, "whatever, I don't care about you". The Bears just continue to go through the motions. Monday walkthrough, Tuesday through Friday practice, and a Sunday game. There is absolutely no purpose in what Chicago football is doing. What's the point? Who cares? What's the difference if the Bears win or loss anymore?
These are the questions everyone in the city of Chicago is asking.
Unfortunately, even the Bears themselves are asking themselves these questions. I know this comes as no surprise, but let's face the truth. Good football teams with stabilization and accountability within their organization never ask themselves these questions. Let's face the facts that the Bears are currently a discombobulated football franchise with no control, discipline, accountability, or leadership within any area of the organization.
From the top down, the Bears need help. And "help" could mean having a one-on-one talk with a player. "Help" could mean firing a coach (or two or five).
Let's go from the top down. To the ownership to the players.
TO BE CONTINUED.....
